Mrs. Susan Landis Souder, age 66, of Elkland Township, Sullivan County, PA, went to be with Jesus on Friday, February 26, 2010, after sixteen courageous years of living with cancer. Her final days were spent with her loving family by her side at the Gatehouse in Williamsport, PA.
Susan was born in Harleysville, PA on March 31, 1943 a daughter of Elias and Sallie (Alderfer) Landis. She was a graduate of Christopher Dock High School of Lansdale, PA, in 1961. She was also a graduate of the Reading School of Nursing. She married John Merrill Souder of Telford, PA on November 10, 1962. She and John moved to a farm in Sullivan County in 1964, where they have resided ever since.
Susan enjoyed working on the farm and traveling (especially to the ocean), with her loving husband; her sweetheart since age 14. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and canned, cooked and baked for them and countless friends. Susan wholeheartedly served the congregation of Living Hope Fellowship, Estella, for 46 years. For thirteen years she cared for residents at Dar-Way Nursing Home in Estella. She also was a hospice volunteer and served with MAMA Project, a mission in Honduras.
Surviving are her spouse, John; son: Mike (Mercy) Souder of Mount Sidney, VA; daughters: Renee (Rodney) Martin, Waynesboro, VA; Brenda (Eugene) Rankin, Stuarts Draft, VA; and Lori (Mike) Beinlich of Forksville; twelve grandchildren; three brothers: Abram (Grace) Landis; Melvin (Esther) Landis; James (Beverly) Landis; five sisters: Betty (Royden) Landes; Katherine Landis; Doris (Richard) Landes; Mary Jane (Robert) Bergey; and Ruthie (John) Ruth; sisters-in-law: Betty Landis and Glenda Landis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Curtis Landis and Elias Landis Jr. and a sister, Emma Landis.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Living Hope Fellowship, Estella, PA.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Eldredsville, PA and a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm at the Community Baptist Church, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville, PA with Pastor Scot Magann officiating.
